After a crazy week of packing, moving boxes, and going up the stairs a bazillion times, it was great to escape the city and head up to Bodega Bay with our friends. Bodega Bay is where Hitchcock's "The Birds" was filmed and a lot of restaurants and bars in the area are named after it. I've been wanting to try The Birds Cafe for a while now and it's on the top of my list.
The seven of us cooked, hiked, played "Heads Up", and laughed so hard. I really appreciate it when everyone gives it there all in acting it out. We definitely made some memories, and at times, it felt like we were a sitcom, like the new version of friends. It's hard to believe that Friends aired in 1994-- twenty years ago!
Being with friends this weekend was a great way to kick-off the holiday season. I'm looking forward to seeing my best friend Liz who is home for the week, spending time with family, helping my older sister Caitlin and husband unpack her new house, cooking, going wine tasting with my cousins, and getting a break from USF and school work.
I am an extrovert- I really get energy from being around others. When I am in a bad mood (which actually isn't very often), just seeing someone on the street or going to class and seeing my classmates' faces instantly makes me feel better. It always makes me laugh when Jesse and I are doing something and I'm tired or hangry and then I bump into someone from Convent or someone from my past and my mood goes from a 3 to a 10 instantly and all of a sudden I am feeling much better. Jesse calls it one of my super powers that when I see someone I instantly absorb their energy and become animated and excited.
Being an extrovert has always worked in my favor. I'm not afraid of meeting new people, I'll chat with anyone, I love making new friends, I like speaking in public, I love being a match maker, trying new things, yada, yada, yada
But with my traineeship and school work this year, I sometimes get too stimulated being around so many people. For some this is going to be hard to believe, but the way I take care of myself is forcing myself to not go to every social situation that I am invited to. I am like a battery that gets charged being around people and rarely every get to 0%, but that's not always great.
I like to unwind by grabbing a book or magazine, recently it's been Sunset Magazine (I've mentioned them before), and just curl up in bed and escape. Recently, I've had a sweet tooth and have been loving hot chocolate, but will sometimes splurge and get a King Size Hersey Bar. My family loves Hersey bars and since there were so many of us growing up, we'd always get King Size bars-- so part of it is habit and part of it is really indulging. When I pop into Safeway to pick up my favorite goodies, I can't resist getting a Hersey's bar and thinking of my family memories.
I'm so inspired by the wreath on the cover of Sunset magazine and am going to have to try and make it! I hope everyone creates some "me time" for themselves this week. What's your way of creating "me time"?
