When I saw this beautiful dress from Vince Camuto, I was immediately taken back to my junior year of high school, specifically the unit Ms. Randall did on Edgar Allan Poe. This dress is so eye-catching, but for me I felt there was a story behind it and that story was Poe. The dark, twisted, somber branches remind me of the trees that were outside of Poe's window as he penned his masterpieces.
When most people think of Edgar Allan Poe they think of his popular works like "The Raven", "The Tell-Tale Heart", and his poetry. This dress reminded me of an excerpt from "The Island of Fey".
"A sombre, yet beautiful and peaceful gloom here pervaded all things. The trees were dark in color, and mournful in form and attitude, wreathing themselves into sad, solemn, and spectral shapes that conveyed ideas of mortal sorrow and untimely death. The grass wore the deep tint of the cypress, and the heads of its blades hung droopingly, and hither and thither among it were many small unsightly hillocks, low and narrow, and not very long, that had the aspect of graves, but were not; although over and all about them the rue and the rosemary clambered. The shade of the trees fell heavily upon the water, and seemed to bury itself therein, impregnating the depths of the element with darkness." -Edgar Allan Poe, "The Island of Fey", 1850
It's as if Mr. Camuto and Mr. Poe were pals! I love this twist on the classic black-white combo. You can never go wrong with a little black and white and Celine nude pumps. I just have to crack up when I see the "serious" photos where I am not smiling. I was trying to do my best Poe pose, but I just look like a goober. I probably won't take anymore serious poses from here on out.
Right now Vince Camuto is having a big sale! 25% orders with the code FRIENDS. I love this dress and am seriously considering getting the top for cooler fall nights to wear with my perfect Pixie pants.
