Good morning and Happy Monday! I hope it was a great weekend for all! I feel like I've unintentionally been less active on Perfect 10 SF and I apologize! I had some computer issues last week and then on Thursday night I got very sick and have been out of commission. I was able to rally and pull my strength together for the amazing baby shower my sisters and mother hosted for me on Saturday, but afterward I essentially collapsed. Since I'm an extrovert, I love being around every and during the party was having a blast but as soon as everyone left I took off my shoes and realized how exhausted, stiff, and sore my throat was! I am still in recovery mode and will share later this weeks my survival skills for getting through a bad cold during pregnancy. I'm hoping to get rid of this by Wednesday, which also happens to be the one-year anniversary of this blog!!
The theme of the shower was Bonjour, Baby Coco! with a crepe cart in the backyard, pastries, fruit, and mimosas. It was a lovely day and we had just under thirty family friends and family. It was really sweet- Jesse was going to just drop me off and stay for a few minutes to take pictures but he ended up staying for a little bit being the unofficial door greeter. He is also so lovely and everyone was happy to see him. My sisters instructed me to get there just minutes before the party started so that I wouldn't be tempted to help pitch in with last minute details, which was very sweet. As a result, the only photos Jesse and I were able to get before guests arrived was a detail shot of one of the tables and one of us! Not pictured on today's post are the crepe station in the backyard, the lovely bar, the table full of desserts, the round tables set up in the living with pink and white table cloths. It really was picture perfect- I guess you'll just have to take my word for it.
Probably the best part of the shower was the fact that we had six little babies in attendance!! I requested that all moms bring their babies so that we could shower them with love! The oldest was four and the youngest was six months. They were crawling around, laughing, helping me open presents, and being delightful. I also made all of the grandmothers share their grandma names: we had a few Grammys, Grandma, Nonnis, and of course my mom, who goes by Mon Cherie! Before I opened the presents my sisters gave a nice toast and I said a few words (and even got a little emotional). The last time there was a party like this in my honor it was for our wedding three years ago and I felt so touched for all of the love we've received.
Everyone was so thoughtful and generous in their gifts and I can't wait to start working on the thank you notes!! I'll write a post later this week on the printed invitations my sisters selected. One of the most special gifts we received was from my mother-in-law, who gave us a box full of Jesse's infant clothes! Since they didn't know if they were having a boy or girl, most of the clothes are yellow and red. They are all so adorable and I can't wait to see our little girl Coco in them so soon!
I'll try and find more photos from the shower to share! You can see a few on Instagram- there's one of my bump! Also, I wanted to share that in the picture above you can see cards- my friends Anne and Eileen organized this special gift. Each guest selected a card with an a number on it and then wrote a birthday card for Baby Coco to open when she reaches that age!!! How sweet is that!!
We had our doctors appointment on Friday morning and honestly, it could not have come at a better time because I had woken up that morning at 2am WIDE AWAKE! My throat was incredibly painful and I'm pretty sure the worst sore throat I've ever had! Four days later and it is still extremely painful to swallow. Our doctor said I had the bad cold that was going around and gave me some tips to take care of it (I will share them later this week).
Other than the cold, she said everything looks good! It is very hard to believe that we will have this baby in less than 50 days!!! Our next doctors appointment is the last week of April and that is when they will check to make sure that our baby girl is in the head down position and ready for delivery! The doctor suggested I do pelvic tilt exercises and sit on a yoga ball to open up my pelvis so that the baby is guided to the wider space. Jesse and I got one at Sports Basement yesterday and I must have looked like a lunatic testing out all of the yoga balls. It's important to get the right one for your height and I just wanted to make sure I got the correct one!
I wish my head wasn't so foggy right now from this cold because there's a lot more I want to share! Expect a few more updates this week with more details and thoughts.
Baby is the size of: A Durian. I don't think I've ever seen one of these fruits! Do I need to get out more?! Hard to believe that baby girl is that big (I know I say that every week, but it really is mind boggling!!!).
Weight Gain: 14 lbs. Same as previous weeks. Doctor said I should be gaining a pound a week until delivery.
Hot, Hot, Hot: Many women experience an increased body temperature during this stage because of an increased metabolic weight. I haven't noticed this too much. I've been sleeping with an ice pack on my neck and a heating pad on my lower back for the past couple of nights for comfort. I'll try and take note of if I feel hot this week.
Headaches: Headaches are common due to hormone fluctuations, stress or dehydration. I've had three headaches this weekend and I'm pretty sure it's from the sinus pressure I have from this terrible head cold. When I had my first headache I was taken aback! It has been such a long time since I've had one that I honestly forgot what they were like! I've just been drinking a lot of fluids to stay hydrated.
Forgetfulness and clumsiness: This is just part of being a human. I've been lucky (knock on wood) that I still feel pretty in control of my body movements and haven't stumbled or anything.
My own weird symptoms:
Baby Wipes Hoarder: I can't stop buying baby wipes! Every time I go to Walgreens or Target I pick up a pack of wipes- all different brands and bulk size, travel size, dry ones that you wet, etc. I feel a strong compulsion to buy them!! Luckily they are something that we will need a lot of!
Baby Products User: We've had some Mustela products for a while and since I've been swimming a lot more and my skin is dry, I decided to try the Mustela baby lotion on myself- and I love it! Now it's the only body wash and body lotion I use. I'm so used to it, but if you're around me and are curious why I smell like a baby, it's because I'm using baby products!
