Today is my 32nd Birthday and I couldn't be more excited! Last night my family and friends surprised me with a birthday party and I can honestly say, I was genuinely surprised! Jesse told me we had dinner plans with some of his colleagues so I really didn't think anything of it. I met him at his office and when we were walking to dinner he said he had to stop by a property manager's office to sign paperwork for their new office so we headed that way and we walked into the building where City Counter is and Jesse said "let's see if Robby is here" and I said, "oh perfect, I want to say hi to Harper!" (both of them work there! so it seemed normal) and then when we walk in I see my sister Colleen's face and I thought, "oh how funny! Colleen is here too for happy hour!" Then everyone yelled surprise! It was really great!
During the surprise, I couldn't help but think about all of the interdependent factors that had to happen for the surprise to work. I was running late and almost said to Jesse I'll meet you at the restaurant. If I had done that, how would he have gotten me back to City Counter? What if I decided to cancel altogether?
Dissecting the elements to see how it all worked out reminded me that it just always works out. It was the simple reminder I needed after a year that, at times, felt bumpy. While I am excited about the year ahead, I said to Jesse last week that I am probably more excited to close the chapter on the past year. Don't get me wrong, this year has been great but the best way to describe it is like a maze video game where you're trying to get to the destination and road blocks keep popping up.
I'd say this past year, which was my golden year of 31, was a year full of pivots. At times it was hard to see how it would all unfold but I had faith that it would all work out. Between a busy year for Jesse, changes for Lillian as she turned two and transitioned from daycare to preschool, changes in work for me, and lots of uncertainty, this year was one that reminded me to stay humble and positive.
It was definitely a year of patience and I am grateful that Jesse's work is going well, Lillian is thriving at preschool and The Bundle of Joy launched and is growing faster than I could have hoped for!
I know the year ahead will bring adventures, growth, and opportunities and I am eager to get it started! Each year I pick a theme that I want for the year and this year my theme is to push myself to work harder. Just push myself that extra mile to get things done better!!!!
Thank you for all of the birthday wishes and for following along-- I really appreciate it!
